The Peterborough Wolverines completed their final road trip of the OFC regular season on Saturday when all three teams travelled to Scarborough to face the Thunder. The Wolverines faced a determined group of Thunder teams and were defeated in all three contests. The Bantams were defeated 64-6, the Jr. Varsity lost 37-30 and the Sr. Varsity lost 31-15.
The Bantams faced the very powerful and talented Thunder who is possibly the strongest team in the OFC Bantam division. The Thunder was able to dominate the Wolverines right from the beginning and lead 43-0 at the half. They continued their explosive offensive attack in the second half to earn the 64-6 victory. The Wolverines lone score was a single touchdown by Xavier Parmiter. The Wolverines record is now 2-4 and they will have a Bye next week.
The Jr. Varsity Wolverines were involved in a hard fought contest with the undefeated Thunder. The Wolverines were able to get off to a good start and lead 15-10 at the half, however, the Thunder came out strong in the second half by outscoring the Wolverines 20-7 in the third quarter to take a 30-22 lead in to the fourth quarter. The Wolverines tried to make a comeback in the final quarter but fell short in the 37-30 lost. Scoring for the Wolverines with single touchdowns were Daniel Corrigal, Brett Bjorgan, Ethan Coles and Shaquan Coon. Hayden Mcilmoyle had three successful convert kicks and Jamie Cooper recorded a two point convert. The Wolverines are now 2-3 and will host the Brampton Bulldogs on Saturday in a 12 noon contest at the TAS Field.
The Sr. Varsity Wolverines were also involved in another hard fought battle with the very physical Sr. Thunder. The Wolverines were able to jump out to an early 13-0 , however, the Thunder scored on a spectular 95 yard pass and run play near the end of the first quarter that basically woke them up and they took over the game from that point allowing them to take a 14-13 lead at the half. The second half was all Thunder as they outscored the Wolverines 17-2 to secure the 31-15 victory. The Wolverines scoring was a single touchdown by Owen Hubert and Trent Rowe was successful on two field goals and a single convert kick.
The Sr. Varsity Wolverines are now 1-4 and will join the Wolverines Jr. Varsity in the double header at the TAS Field on Saturday when they will host the Cornwall Wildcats in the second game at 3 pm. The Jr. Varsity Wolverines will begin the day with a 12 noon game with Brampton. All three Wolverines teams are certainly happy to be able to close out the regular season with all the remaining games being home contests.
