WOW Night - April 6, 2024

Join us on April 6, 2024 from 7:00 - 8:30 pm to learn more about football!

This event is an opportunity for women in our community to learn more about football and gain first hand experience working withcoaches on the field, practicing the same drills our players experience throughout the season.

We created this event to help reduce the barriers and open up communication between our club and the women who might have an interest in taking a more active role within the organization.

Football is a complex game with many different players responsible for different aspects of each play. We start the evening with “chalk talk”.Where we explain the objectives of offensive and defensive schemes and what techniques each position group needs to possess. We also have Emily Todd from Football Ontario who will be our keynote speaker. Emily will talk about her journey through football from the University of Western Ontario to the CFL Female Intern Program with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Once we have completed the basic explanations of the positions, attendees will have the opportunity to go out onto the field, complete a warm-up and circulate through different drill stations. The athletes will learn how to properly throw and catch the ball. As well we will teach them basic football footwork drills. The real fun will begin when they get first-hand experience in safe contact training when they get to tackle wheels and learn to correctly block each other with the use of padded equipment.

The evening ends back at McGillicafey’s Pub and Eatery where the entire group can socialize and discuss the experience they just had as well as meet and chat with new friends who they will be spending the summer with at the football field.

** Note - this event is open to all Peterborough Football (Wolverines and KMFL) Moms, Sisters, Aunts and any other female that would like to learn a bit more about the sport.  It was a really fun event last year**
